Research behind this
Aspartame, methyleugenol, and isoeugenol — IARC Monographs evaluation
Classified aspartame as “possibly carcinogenic to humans” (Group 2B) based on limited evidence for liver cancer.
Evaluation of certain food additives: ninety-sixth report of JECFA (aspartame)
Reviewed the same evidence as IARC and reaffirmed the acceptable daily intake of 40 mg/kg bw/day — no change recommended.
This product is rated Moderate. Rated Moderate because every additive is approved, but BHT carries a low intake limit, aspartame carries the IARC/JECFA conflict, and polyols require a laxative-effect warning. Little of a chewed gum is actually swallowed, which keeps real intake low.
